Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on September 8 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several major projects aimed at boosting the state’s infrastructure and energy sectors. The visit was confirmed following a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi earlier today.
During their discussion, Chief Minister Sarma formally invited the Prime Minister to be the chief guest at the year-long celebration commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the legendary musician and cultural icon. The event is expected to attract nationwide attention, highlighting Hazarika’s enduring contribution to Indian music and culture.
As part of his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate the Assam Bio-Ethanol Plant, a significant step in the state’s push towards sustainable energy. The plant will utilize 300 KTPA of bamboo to produce 49 KTPA of ethanol, offering a renewable fuel source while also promoting economic development in rural areas.
In addition, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stones for two critical infrastructure projects: the ₹5,700 crore Guwahati Ring Road and the Darrang Medical College and Hospital. These projects are expected to significantly improve regional connectivity and healthcare facilities in Assam.
Following the meeting, CM Sarma expressed his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), thanking the Prime Minister for accepting the invitation and acknowledging the importance of the upcoming visit.
