Ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death by the country’s International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for crimes against humanity during last year’s student uprising that led to the fall of her government.
The court, after a months-long trial in her absence, found Hasina guilty of ordering a deadly crackdown, convicting her on three charges: incitement to violence, issuing orders to kill protesters, and failing to prevent atrocities during last year’s student-led uprising.
The 78-year-old Awami League leader is currently in New Delhi, living in exile since her ouster from power on 5 August 2024.
