Guwahati City FC Residential Football Academy launched

Guwahati City Football Club (GCFC) have launched its residential football academy today. This will be the first ever elite residential football academy with academic education in the same campus in the city. The academy, which will be in one of the elite schools of the city, Kaziranga English Academy campus, Gorchuk, shall have all the modern and state of art facilities for football training where kids can aspire to be a professional footballer without losing out on academic education. The details of the academy were revealed in a press conference today held at the Assam Olympic Association conference hall.

Addressing the press, director of the club, Siddhartha Sankar Deka said that this academy was a long term dream project of the club after relentlessly working on the grassroots and youth development for the last eight years. He hoped that this facility will provide elite level of football training to the kids who want to pursue football without hampering their education. He thanked the management of the Kaziranga English Academy for coming forward and joining hands with the GCFC for this project. Kaustab Chakraborty, the director of the GCFC informed that the academy will provide CBSE curriculum and elite football training by AFC/AIFF licensed coaches as well as a team of qualified support staff. The module will be tailored for the requirements of both the football and education. The admission to academy will be both open and through trials. Another director of the club, Darick Ranjan Deka said that after successfully conducting three seasons of Greater Guwahati Baby League, operating five non residential academies and producing numerous players for both the club and district/state teams, they felt that a combined curriculum of schooling and football training is much needed for outstation kids. Therefore the idea of this academy was formulated and with the help of Kaziranga English Academy it is now launched. He also informed that two new football training centres in and around Guwahati are also coming up. The Management of Kaziranga English Academy told that the kids of the GCFC academy will have access to all the state of art facilities of the school like football pitch, air conditioned hostel, swimming pool, modern classrooms, well equipped gym etc for training, recovery, rest and recreation. They said that the school is always eager to work for sports development and it is proud to help GCFC for its residential academy. A trial cum campus visit for interested kids and parents will be held in the month of May 2025, said the GCFC management. Kids born between 2008-2015 are eligible for admission in the academy.
