District administrations of Assam have been empowered to close all educational institutions of their respective districts if the number of Covid-19 positive cases surge to 1000 per day.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, briefing media on 21st April said that the district administrations can do so without the consent of the government, provided the district registers over 1000 fresh Covid-19 cases in a single day.

Given the deteriorating situation, all passengers coming to Assam will be mandatorily kept under home quarantine for 7 days. In view of the rising Covid-19 cases in Guwahati, the Covid screening centres will be increased to 60 numbers.

Sarma urged hospitals to tie up with their nearby hotels to lodge the asymptomatic patients while admitting the critical ones in the hospital, thus avoiding scarcity.

With Guwahati recording a rise rate of per day active cases, the Dhirenpara Maternity Hospital will be converted to a Covid hospital, he informed.
