Fresh Eviction Drive in Merapani Border Area, 59 Families Asked to Vacate Homes
Tension has resurfaced in the No. 2 Negheribil area along the Merapani border, with the Forest Department set to resume an eviction drive from Saturday. The department has issued a final notice directing 59 families who had obtained a stay order against eviction to vacate their homes.
On Friday, forest officials made announcements over loudspeakers, instructing the affected families to collect their belongings and vacate their houses. The directive has triggered fresh anxiety and uncertainty among the families facing eviction.
Earlier, the administration had carried out an eviction drive in Negheribil. Of the 205 families in the area, 59 had received a stay order from the Supreme Court, which provided them temporary relief from eviction at the time.
However, the latest directive to vacate their homes has once again raised concerns about the future of these families. The proposed eviction drive, scheduled to resume on Saturday, has heightened tension and apprehension across the area.
