CSK beats KKR by 18 runs, Faf du Plessis the man-of-the-match

In a nail biting thriller, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the competitive Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 18 runs on 21st April. Winning the toss, KKR decided to bowl first in the ‘batting heaven’ pitch. But CSK opener Rituraj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis gave CSK a flying start adding 115 runs. However,  Rituraj Gaikwad got run-out by Varun Chakravarthy at 64. Faf du Plessis splendid innings of 95 in just 60 balls, Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni’s quickfire knocks helped CSK to set a target of 221 for the Kolkata team. For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell got 1 wickets each.

Meanwhile, chasing a mammoth score of 221, the KKR were in trouble initially as they lost 5 wickets for just 31 runs. Andre Russell’s 54 runs for 22 balls and Dinesh Karthik’s 40  for 24 balls helped KKR to stay in the game. Later, Pat Cummins launched his destructive batting and scored an outstanding innings of 66 runs in just 34 balls.  However, KKR was all out for 202 with Pat Cummins staying not out.

For CSK, swing king Deepak Chahar took early 4 wickets and Lungi Ngidi took 3. Faf du Plessis was the man of the match for his tremendous innings. With this win, CSK has reached the top of the points table of IPL.

Tonight Rajasthan Royals will be facing Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhade stadium in Mumbai.
