State mourns the demise of singer Vitali Das

Prominent Assamese singer Vitali Das succumbed to Covid-19 on Wednesday at the GMCH after fighting with the dreaded disease from some days.

The noted singer  was tested positive for Covid-19 on 14th of April and was admited to the Kalapahar Covid Hospital. She was later shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after condition become critical and was on ventilator support. Das was reportedly diabetic. Ironically, she was found to be Covid-19  negative on Wednesday morning.

Her family members assumes that she might have contracted the virus during her visit to ‘Mukoli Bihu’ in the Latasil playground. Artists from across  Assam has condoled her sudden death and bid her adieu in their social media handles.  Zubeen Garg wrote on Facebook  “Thousands of songs, lakhs of stories, uncountable memories we shared together. She was one of the strongest co-singers I’ve ever worked with. I will miss you, Vitali.”

Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his condolences towards Das’ family and well wishers, said that her death is a great loss to the state.

Other artists like Papon, Priyanaka Bharali, Deeplina Deka and others also paid their condolences for the sudden death of the singer. Politicians like Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal and others grieved Vitali Das’s death. She will be remembered for her  work on Jonbai (2005), Jaanmoni (2005) and Aaimoni (2009) amongst others.
