According to RR director of cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara, Royals are making too many casual mistakes which have cost them the loss against DC. Despite Sanju Samson’s questionable dismissal in the 16th over, Sangakkara stated that RR should to have chased the 222-run mark against DC.

They lost to Delhi Capitals by 20 runs on Tuesday, forcing them to wait for an another match to guarantee a spot in the play-offs. Head coach Kumar Sangakkara believes they have been playing with too much carelessness in the previous few games.

“It’s challenging. We’ve had a fantastic start to the season; a few bumps along the way, but that’s how the competition works. You must be at the top of your game. We seem to be making far too many casual errors, in my opinion,” Kumar Sangakkara said.

He highlighted the need to have patience in the field as the game progresses and lauded spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal for bowling well in the first innings.

“Execution is the key. While bowling, you must strive to bring your side back by saving a boundary. I felt that we bowled superbly throughout this match, particularly Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, who once again proved their superiority,” he continued.

Sangakkara felt that his team gave up a few extra runs towards the end of the first innings. “But I think we gave a few extra runs. Good batting at the end by Tristan Stubbs and (Jake) Fraser-McGurk at the top. However, even with 220, we could’ve won the game,” he claimed.

RR lost Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over and Jos Buttler too departed in the powerplay, but skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag steadied the innings for RR. Shubham Dubey’s played a cameo in the middle.

“We did not have a great powerplay, but Sanju and Riyan bought us back in the game. Shubham Dubey was also fantastic. Just there were too many dot balls which cost us the game. We’ve a got a great side, but need to be disciplined throughout the game,” the legendary southpaw opined.

RR need a win to seal their playoff seat as they face Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Sunday.
