A Venezuelan man named Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos has been arrested by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on suspicion of attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump. The 26-year-old is a Venezuelan national. An AR-15 rifle, two handguns and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from his possession. He was arrested near the White House on Thursday night. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

According to police sources, a Secret Service officer became suspicious after noticing a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck parked near the White House complex. The officer subsequently began questioning Chrinos. Investigators claim that during questioning, the young man told them that he had heard a voice inside his head saying, “Go and kill Trump.” Following this revelation, he was arrested, and his vehicle was searched.

According to sources, a MAC-10 submachine gun, a Glock 43X pistol and an AR-15 rifle were recovered from inside the vehicle. Investigators also claimed that several dozen rounds of ammunition were found.

That was not all. An examination of the vehicle’s registration plate reportedly revealed that the truck had been stolen from South Carolina. Chrinos has been charged with several offences, including vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and carrying a pistol and rifle without the required licence.

According to the DHS, Chrinos is a Venezuelan national and does not have valid documentation to remain in the United States. He reportedly entered the country through Texas in 2024.

Although he was granted bail in the criminal case, he could face re-arrest under immigration laws. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) may seek to take him into its custody.

Commenting on the incident, US Secret Service Director Sean Curran said, “The presence of armed individuals suspected of posing a threat near the White House is a serious security concern.”

Following his arrest, Chrinos was brought before the DC Superior Court in Washington. According to the court’s online records, the judge denied his bail request. He is currently being held in jail. The US Marshals Service has also launched an investigation into the incident.
