Revival of Assam paper mills | Delhi High Court directs Govt of India to file Affidavit before September 28

Guwahati, August 29 (NKTV): In a press statement, the Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions (JACRU) informed that the Delhi High Court has directed the Government of India to Clear intent by Affidavit within September 28 on ‘Revival Of Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd, Cachar & Nagaon Paper Mills of Assam’.

The case of Cachar Paper Project Workers Unions vs Union of India reached for hearing before the Delhi High Court on August 26, 2021. Subsequently, the Delhi High Court passed an order directing the Government of India to file Affidavit before September 28, 2021 clarifying the Intent of the Government as to whether the Government would revive Hindustan Paper Corporation Ltd having two Heavy Paper Industries of Assam.

JACRU has welcomed the order and expressed that the commitments and assurances repeatedly given by the Government of India and Assam would unveil the reality when the Affidavit on revival of HPC would be submitted before the High Court. “The Citizens of Assam would realize whether the Governments and Ruling Party honours their commitment and election manifesto” JACRU stated.

The JACRU revealed that the Appellate Tribunal, NCLAT, had directed the government to infuse required funds to revive the industries but the Government did not pay any heed to the order of NCLAT. “Moreover, withholding the salary since last 56 months imposed inhuman torture on the workers which resulted in regular deaths and as of now, 92 workers died including three suicides” the JACRU said.

“The JACRU is confident that the Government in Centre and State would definitely honour their commitments and election manifesto which will be reflected in their Affidavit going to be submitted before the Delhi High Court” members stated.

JACRU also reaffirmed continuation of mass movement including legal battle with support of citizens till the industries of Assam are revived, all legitimate dues of workers are cleared and the scope of employment for the unemployed youths of Assam ensured.
