The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced financial aid for victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed several lives and left many injured. Families of those killed will receive an ex-gratia payment of ₹10 lakh each, while those seriously injured will be given ₹2 lakh, and individuals with minor injuries will receive ₹1 lakh.

“No amount can compensate for the loss of life, but as a gesture of support, we are offering financial aid to the victims and their families,” read a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office on Wednesday. The government also confirmed that arrangements have been made for the dignified return of the deceased and that injured victims are receiving top medical care.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the attack, condemning it as a “barbaric act of terrorism.” In a social media post, he called it a senseless attack on innocent civilians and assured that the culprits would be brought to justice. “Terror will not shake our resolve,” he said.

In the aftermath of the attack, many tourists have begun cutting their trips short, leading to a surge in demand for flights from Srinagar. Responding to the situation, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked airlines to increase the number of flights to and from Srinagar. Airlines have also been urged to waive cancellation and rescheduling charges to assist affected travelers.

The terror attack is being regarded as one of the deadliest since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. While the official casualty count has not yet been confirmed, search operations are underway to hunt down the perpetrators. Security has been significantly tightened in the region, and the normally busy tourist areas now appear deserted.

Calls for a Jammu bandh have also emerged from several organizations in response to the attack, as public outrage continues to grow.
