India approves first Covid vaccine for children above 12 years

Guwahati, August 21 (NKTV): The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on Friday approved Zydus Cadila’s three-dose Covid-19 DNA vaccine for emergency use in children aged 12 years and above as well adults. The vaccine has been developed in partnership with the Department of Biotechnology.

Named ZyCoV-D, the vaccine showed an efficacy rate of 66.6 per cent in a late-stage trial of over 28,000 volunteers nationwide.

It may be mentioned here that ZyCoV-D is the world’s first plasmid DNA vaccine against the coronavirus.

Reportedly, the company plans to manufacture 100 million to 120 million doses of ZyCoV-D annually.
