CWC Slams Pakistan for Pahalgam Terror Attack, Demands Probe Into Security Lapses

The Congress Working Committee on Thursday condemned the April 22 terror strike in Pahalgam, Kashmir, calling it a “brutal” assault engineered by Pakistan and designed to inflame communal tensions by targeting Hindu tourists.

In a sharply worded resolution, the CWC said the attack struck at the core values of the Republic and urged citizens to remain calm and united. While reaffirming its zero‑tolerance stance on terrorism, the party demanded a full investigation into the intelligence and security failures that made the tragedy possible, insisting that accountability be transparent and public.

The committee observed two minutes of silence to honor the victims and praised the bravery of local pony handlers and guides—one of whom died shielding tourists—calling their sacrifice a testament to India’s resilience.

Looking ahead to the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, the CWC urged the government to deploy “robust, transparent and proactive” security measures to protect pilgrims and residents. It also criticized the BJP for allegedly exploiting the tragedy on social media to sow political division, warning that such conduct undermines national unity at a moment of collective grief.
