Guwahati, August 22 (NKTV): Protests have been witnessed from the Hindu community of Bangladesh as the nation has plotted to amend Hindu laws in the country. Leaders of the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance have put forward a four-point demand regarding the same.

The government has been asked to make a clear announcement in this regard by August 30. The demand was made at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Sunday.

The four-point demand include: i) not to change or amend any law of the Hindu community, ii) to take legal action against the troublemakers who indulge in anti-Hindu family, anti-social and anti-religious activities, iii) unconditional apology from all concerned including Shaheen Anam and iv) a clear statement from the Government by August 30.

Professor Hirendranath Biswas, President of the Hindu Samaj Sanskar Samiti alleged that Mahfuz Anam, Editor of the English daily Daily Star and his wife Shaheen Anam, Director of Manusher Jonno were campaigning for a reform of the Hindu religion law. “This is a new conspiracy the Hindu community would not accept” Biswas said. He alleged several international NGOs were involved in the conspiracy.

“They themselves do not understand why they want to reform this law” Biswas said. “There is no need to reform or change the traditional law. Today, those who want to reform this law have insulted Hinduism” he added.

In a written statement, Pratibha Bagchi, Women’s Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajot, said several that NGOs, including the Foundation for the People, were sowing the seeds of unrest in homes of the integrated Hindu community that had existed for thousands of years.

Leaders of various Hindu organisations and prominent members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh were present at the press conference.
