Advocate General Devajit Saikia resigns
Devajit Saikia has tendered his resignation from the constitutional office of the Advocate General of Assam, bringing to an end a tenure of nearly five years marked by significant legal and constitutional responsibilities.
Saikia submitted his resignation on Wednesday, maintaining what he described as the “high tradition and constitutional practice” associated with the office. His resignation comes consequent to the completion of the present Government’s term under the leadership of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a statement issued following his resignation, Saikia expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve the State of Assam in one of its most important constitutional positions. He described the tenure as “an immense honour and privilege” and thanked the Chief Minister, the Council of Ministers, members of the legal fraternity, fellow lawyers, government officers and all concerned individuals for their trust, cooperation and continued support throughout his term.
During his tenure as Advocate General, Saikia represented the State Government in several important legal and constitutional matters and played a key role in assisting the administration on various legal issues.
