Private Jet Crashes in Florida, Killing All Nine On Board; Pilot’s Final Distress Call Reveals Terrifying Moments

A private Learjet 60 plunged into a residential area near West Palm Beach, Florida, killing all nine people aboard. Newly surfaced air traffic control audio captures the pilot’s desperate attempts to regain control as the aircraft rapidly lost altitude amid reports of severe turbulence and ice accumulation.

A devastating aviation accident in Florida has claimed nine lives after a private Learjet 60 crashed near West Palm Beach on Sunday. The aircraft was travelling from Austin, Texas, to Freeport in the Bahamas when it suddenly plunged towards the ground and exploded on impact.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people aboard the aircraft had died. The jet, registered as N722BD, crashed near a residential neighbourhood close to a mobile home park.

The final moments before the disaster have come to light through an air traffic control (ATC) audio recording, revealing the desperate situation inside the cockpit.

Minutes before the crash, the pilot reported moderate turbulence and ice accumulating on the aircraft. The crew was also discussing the possibility of finding smoother air as they continued their journey towards the Bahamas. The outside temperature was reportedly minus 47 degrees Celsius, while turbulence was causing the aircraft to experience sudden vertical movements of up to 700 feet.

However, the situation quickly deteriorated.

In a desperate emergency transmission, the pilot declared, “Mayday, Mayday!” and reported that the aircraft was descending at approximately 10,000 feet per minute.

The air traffic controller immediately acknowledged the emergency and attempted to assist the crew. Moments later, the pilot reported that the aircraft was overspeeding and descending at an alarming rate of 20,000 feet per minute.

Warning alarms could be heard in the background as the crew struggled to regain control.

The controller reassured the pilots that they could select any altitude and attempted to maintain communication, saying, “I’m here with you. Talk to me.”

Despite the efforts, the aircraft continued its rapid descent.

In one of the most chilling moments captured in the recording, the pilot reportedly said, “We’re going to crash into the ground.”

The crew subsequently reported that the aircraft was descending at 22,000 feet per minute while banking at an angle of approximately 60 degrees.

The aircraft crashed near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North in Greenacres, Florida. Following the incident, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office closed roads in both directions and advised motorists to stay away from the area.

Firefighters and emergency response teams rushed to the scene as authorities began responding to the devastating incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine what caused the aircraft to lose control and plunge to the ground.

The crash site is located just a few miles from Palm Beach International Airport.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the nine victims. Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft, flight data and weather conditions to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The cause of the crash remains unknown.
