Leopard Terror in Dibrugarh’s Khowang, Teenager Injured in Attack

Panic has gripped Khowang in Dibrugarh district following another leopard attack in the area. A teenager was seriously injured after being attacked by a leopard, triggering fear among local residents.

According to reports, the incident took place when the teenager had gone near the Dimow River in search of Dhekia (fiddlehead ferns). The leopard suddenly attacked him, leaving him with deep scratch injuries on his face. His cheek and ear also sustained serious injuries in the attack.

Following the incident, the injured teenager was initially taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. He was later referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for advanced medical care.

Meanwhile, police and Forest Department officials rushed to the spot after receiving information about the attack. Forest personnel reportedly fired warning shots in an attempt to drive the leopard away from the area.

The incident comes amid growing instances of human-wildlife conflict, largely attributed to shrinking forest cover and the expansion of human settlements towards forested areas. Wild animals often venture into human habitats in search of food and shelter, sometimes resulting in dangerous encounters.

Following the latest incident in Khowang, fear among local residents has intensified. The Forest Department is monitoring the situation, while residents have urged authorities to take stronger precautionary measures to prevent further human-leopard encounters.
