An incident involving alleged cruelty to animals has come to light in Bokolia Ghat, where 24 dogs were reportedly being transported to Dimapur with their mouths and legs tightly bound.
Acting on specific intelligence, Bokolia Ghat Police launched an operation and rescued the 24 dogs from a Maruti Swift car. A youth identified as Niranjan Rongpi was detained in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, an NGO named UCIF has taken responsibility for the care of the rescued dogs. The animals, reportedly exhausted due to the heat, are currently receiving care and attention from the organisation.
According to available information, another NGO team from Guwahati is expected to arrive and arrange for the dogs to be shifted to a designated animal shelter.
Further details regarding the purpose of the alleged transportation are yet to emerge, and the matter is expected to become clearer as the investigation progresses.
