Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on August 20 and discussed the state’s ongoing flood recovery, livelihood restoration and plans for rebuilding flood-affected areas.

Sarma said he briefed the Prime Minister on the roadmap for rehabilitation and reconstruction, with a focus on restoring livelihoods and ensuring a comprehensive recovery. He also thanked Modi for the Centre’s support during Assam’s flood response and said the Prime Minister had remained in regular touch with the state government while monitoring the situation.

During the meeting, Sarma also apprised Modi of key initiatives undertaken by his government during its first 100 days in office following its recent mandate.

According to Sarma, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Centre’s continued support for Assam’s recovery efforts and offered guidance for the next phase of rebuilding.

The meeting comes as Assam continues rehabilitation and reconstruction work following the 2026 floods, which caused extensive damage across several parts of the state.

Earlier in the day, Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed Integrated District Commissioner’s Office of Kamrup Metropolitan district at Rupnagar in Guwahati.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 81.20 crore, the three-storeyed facility covers around 12,700 square metres and brings multiple administrative functions under one roof. The building has also been designed to accommodate two additional floors in the future, if required.

The foundation stone for the project was laid on January 5, 2023.

The facility features a 350-kilowatt solar power system, with provision for adding another 100-kilowatt capacity in the future. The new office is expected to improve administrative coordination and make government services more accessible to residents of Kamrup Metropolitan district.
