In a remarkable achievement for Assam and the nation, adventure swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika has become the first Assamese to successfully complete a 350-kilometre swim relay across the sea, lasting nearly 80 hours over four days.

Hazarika began the challenging swim on the morning of February 6 and finished on the afternoon of February 9, marking a historic milestone in Indian adventure sports.

“It took a total of four days, and it’s hard to explain how I felt. It was an unforgettable experience,” Elvis said after completing the relay.

Describing the extreme conditions he faced, Hazarika admitted that the journey was both physically and mentally demanding.

“At times, I was very scared, and it was extremely tough. Swimming continuously in the middle of the sea for four days with only a boat nearby was very challenging,” he said.

He also spoke about battling exhaustion, lack of sleep, and harsh marine life.

“During those four days, I could hardly sleep properly or eat well. Swimming with so many jellyfish was very tough. I encountered a lot of jellyfish, and after that the current became very strong,” he added.

According to Hazarika, the changing tides made the swim even more difficult, as strong currents threatened to halt his progress.

“This kind of adventure swimming is very rare in India. But I feel proud and happy that I was able to complete it. It was extremely tiring overall,” he said.

Elvis Ali Hazarika’s achievement is being hailed as an inspiration for young athletes in Assam and across India, showcasing courage, endurance, and determination at the highest level.
