S. A. Safdar, former Assam Ranji Trophy cricketer and retired NF Railways employee, passed away today in Allahabad (Prayagraj) following a cardiac arrest. He was 80 years old.
Safdar, a respected name in Assam’s cricket history, made his First-Class debut in the 1968–69 season and went on to play eight Ranji Trophy matches for Assam until the 1976–77 season. Known for his disciplined approach and sincere service, he contributed significantly both as a player and as an NF Railways employee.
He is survived by his son and daughter.
Family members, former teammates and well-wishers have expressed deep grief over his demise. Prayers have been offered for the departed soul, with many remembering his calm demeanour and dedication to the sport.
