Indian Army’s Spear Corps Conquers Mount Gorichen, Blending Grit with Green Responsibility

33

The soldiers of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps have scripted history by successfully scaling Mount Gorichen, the highest climbable peak of Arunachal Pradesh at 6,488 meters, on 19 September 2025.

Braving extreme cold, thin air, and treacherous Himalayan ridges, the team displayed remarkable courage, endurance, and unity as they stood atop what is often called the “Roof of Arunachal.” The expedition was undertaken not just as an adventure mission but also to test resilience and promote a spirit of exploration in one of India’s toughest terrains.

What made this feat even more noteworthy was the Corps’ emphasis on environmental consciousness. Along their ascent route, the soldiers organized a cleanliness drive, ensuring their adventure left no scar on the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. By championing sustainable mountaineering, they reinforced the Army’s long-held pledge to protect and preserve nature alongside serving the nation.

Congratulating the team, Lieutenant General Abhijjit S Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, GOC Spear Corps, said, “This expedition reflects the grit and resilience of the Indian Army. Our soldiers not only conquered Gorichen’s daunting heights but also upheld their duty towards the environment. It is a proud moment for Spear Corps and the entire Army.”

The successful summit of Mount Gorichen stands as a powerful reminder of the Army’s dual ethos — unmatched military excellence and deep respect for the natural heritage of the Himalayas.
