Successful Implementation of Employee Insurance Scheme Initiated by the Chief Minister

Under an agreement signed between the Government of Assam and the State Bank of India as part of an initiative by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the family of a police officer who died in an accident has received a disbursement of Rs. 80 lakhs as part of a life insurance scheme. This life insurance scheme brings a message of hope to government employees and their families.

Notably, Archana Devi, who held the position of Sub-Inspector at Bhangagarh Police Station in Guwahati, sustained injuries in an accident on 9 October 2024 and subsequently died while receiving medical care at Gauhati Medical College on 21 October 2024. Following this, her mother, Bhumita Devi, submitted a formal appeal to the Chief Minister, requesting Rs. 1 crore in compensation under the provisions of the police life insurance scheme.

Taking prompt action to support the bereaved family, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma initiated the requisite administrative procedures. Acting in accordance with the terms of the agreement between the state government and the State Bank of India, the authorities resolved the claim. Consequently, on 26 May, a payment of Rs. 80 lakhs was disbursed by the State Bank of India to Bhumita Devi as insurance compensation.
