Red Alert for many districts with the onset of Monsoon in Assam and NE

Guwahati, June 30 (NKTV): With the onset of Monsoon this year, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert as well as orange and yellow alerts for numerous districts of Northeast India. Red means extremely heavy rain on cards while orange means very heavy and yellow means heavy rain. Red warning calls for action, orange for preparation while yellow suggests to stay updated.

Following are the warnings issued for numerous districts till july 04:

  • July 01:

Red (take action): Extremely heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places in South West Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya; Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Chirang district of Assam; West Garo Hills of Meghalaya.

Orange (Be Prepared): Extremely heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya; Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over South Salmara, Kokrajhar, Baksa, Barpeta and Dhemaji districts of Assam; East Garo Hills , South Garo Hills , South West Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya; Upper Siang, East Siang, Lower Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley and Lohit districts of Arunachal Pradesh.Lawngtlai district of Mizoram; Gomati, Sipahijala, South Tripura and West Tripura districts of Tripura.

Yellow (Be Updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Nalbari, Kamrup (Rural), Darrang, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Bishwanath, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Dima Hasao and Cachar districts of Assam; North Garo Hills, West Jaintia Hills, West Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya; Phek, Wokha, and Kephire districts of Nagaland; Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts of Manipur; Lunglei, and Saiha districts of Mizoram, andWest Kameng, KurungKumey, Papumpare, West Siang, Anjaw, and Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

  • July 02:

Orange (Be Prepared): Extremely heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya; Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Chirang, and Bongaigaon districts of Assam; East & West Garo Hills, , East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya.

Yellow (Be Updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Kamrup (Rural), Udalguri, Bishwanath, Dhemaji, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj districts of Assam; South West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills , West Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya; Phek, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon, and Longleng district of Nagaland; Tamenglong, Senapati, Jiribam, and Chandel district of Manipur; Lunglei, Lawngtlai, and Saiha of Mizoram, and West Kameng, East Kameng, KraDaadi, Lower Subansiri, Siang, Upper Siang, Dibang Valley, Lohit, Tirap, and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

  • July 03

Orange (Be Prepared): Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places in East Khasi Hills & southwest Khashi Hills districts of Meghalaya.

Yellow (Be Updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over South Salmara, Goalpara, Chirang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Darrang, Charaideo, Dima Hasao , Cachar, and Hailakandi districts of Assam; East Garo Hills , West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills , East
Jaintia Hills districts of Meghalaya;West Kameng, East Kameng, Papumpare, West Siang, East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley, Anjaw, and Lohit districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

  • July 04:

Yellow (Be Updated): Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Baksa, Barpeta, Kamrup (Rural), Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dima Hasao districts of Assam; East Garo Hills , West Garo Hills, , South Garo Hills , East Jaintia Hills, East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills.

Probable impact included localized flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas, flash flood in some catchment areas, occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall, localized interruption to some utilities and services, damage to kutcha roads, localized landslide/mudslides, damage to vulnerable structures, damage to standing agricultural/horticulture crops and flooding in some river catchments.

The IMD has urged people to avoid going to areas that face water logging problem often, avoid staying in vulnerable structures, follow advisories issued by the authority and stay updated.
