Pakistan Says ‘Won’t Violate Ceasefire’

81

India and Pakistan have concluded high-level military talks aimed at reinforcing the recent ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. During a hotline conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations, Pakistan affirmed its commitment to uphold the ceasefire, while India issued a stern warning against any violations.

The dialogue follows a period of heightened tensions, notably after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Subsequently, Pakistan initiated missile attacks and cross-border firing, leading to further escalation. However, following decisive air strikes by India, Pakistan proposed a ceasefire, which was brokered with diplomatic intervention from the U.S.

Despite the ceasefire, India has reported instances of unprovoked firing by Pakistan in areas such as Kupwara and Poonch districts. In the recent DGMO-level talks, India emphasized its right to retaliate against any ceasefire violations and reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, provided there is reciprocity from Pakistan.

The ceasefire agreement, announced on May 10, 2025, has been holding, with both sides reporting a cessation of hostilities. The United Nations and other international bodies have welcomed the development, expressing hope for sustained peace in the region.

As the situation stabilizes, both nations face the challenge of addressing underlying issues to prevent future escalations. The international community continues to monitor the developments closely, urging both India and Pakistan to engage in constructive dialogue.
