Operation Sindoor: India’s Biggest Multi-Domain Strike in Decades Eliminates Top Jaish Terrorists

20

Operation Sindoor, launched weeks after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, has emerged as one of India’s most extensive military operations in nearly five decades. The mission marked a major shift in India’s national security strategy with the large-scale use of drones, artificial intelligence, and network-centric warfare capabilities.

The operation was aimed at delivering a strong response to Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that India would not tolerate “nuclear blackmail” from Islamabad, underlining the government’s firm stance against terrorism.

Major Blow to Jaish-e-Mohammed

Operation Sindoor dealt a severe setback to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), eliminating several high-value terrorists and close aides of JeM chief Masood Azhar.

Among those killed was Yusuf Azhar alias Ustaad Gohri, a key Jaish terrorist, IC-814 hijacker, and brother-in-law of Masood Azhar. Yusuf was known as the chief of the Balakot Jaish terror camp and was allegedly involved in the Uri, Pulwama, and Pathankot terror attacks. He was killed in missile strikes carried out in Bahawalpur.

Another senior JeM leader eliminated was Hafiz Muhammad Jameel, the eldest brother-in-law of Masood Azhar. His son Hamza Jameel was also killed in the strikes. Hafiz Jameel oversaw the Markaz Subhan Allah headquarters in Bahawalpur, a major terror training and recruitment centre spread across 18 acres.

Security agencies also confirmed the killing of Huzaifa Asghar Alvi, a senior commander and adopted son of Abdul Rauf Asghar, the operational chief of JeM. Senior terrorist Muhammad Abdul Aziz was also among those eliminated.

In Muzaffarabad, missile strikes on the Syedna Bilal camp killed Hassan and Waqas, two relatives of Masood Azhar. Hassan, son of Muhammad Asghar Khan Kashmiri, reportedly attended key Jaish Shura meetings in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Waqas was known as a trained sniper specialist. Both were allegedly involved in infiltration plans targeting Jammu and Kashmir.

Strategic Shift in Warfare

Operation Sindoor highlighted India’s growing emphasis on technology-driven warfare. Defence experts described the mission as a landmark example of integrated combat operations involving drones, AI-assisted target acquisition, precision missile systems, and real-time intelligence coordination.

The operation is being viewed as a major transformation in India’s broader defence and strategic doctrine, signalling a more aggressive and technologically advanced counter-terror response capability.
