‘Misa – The False’ Wins Best Assamese Short Film at 5th Global Independent Film Festival of India in Kolkata

The Assamese short film Misa – The False has been awarded the Best Assamese Short Film at the 5th edition of the Global Independent Film Festival of India (GIFFI) held in Kolkata. The award was received on stage by the film’s director Chiranjiv Buragohain and producer Rantu Bhuyan.

To date, Misa – The False has secured 7 national-level recognitions, including:

  1. Jagran Film Festival 2025 – Official Selection
  2. Ooty Short Film Festival 2025 – Official Selection
  3. GIFFI 2025 – Winner (Best Assamese Short Film)
  4. West Bengal International Film Festival 2025 – Official Selection
  5. Miseentage Indian Film Awards 2025 – Winner 🏆 Best Director
  6. Sittannavasal International Film Festival 2025, Chennai – Winner 🏆 Best Short Script/Screenplay & Best Indian Short Film
  7. Northeast International Documentary and Film Fest (NIDFF) – Official Selection

In another highlight of the festival, Late Zubeen Garg‘s iconic song Mayabini had been performed as a tribute to his own legacy in Bengali cinema. He also spoke at length about his contributions to the Bengali film industry over the years.

Meanwhile, the Bengali 2nd Best Short Film award went to *”Chandika”, produced by **Fame Studio Productions, directed by **Sushant Mondal, and written by *Sanjib Barman (Guwahati).

The GIFFI continues to be a significant platform celebrating independent cinema from across India and beyond.
