The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday formally approved India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games during its Special General Meeting (SGM).
India has already submitted an Expression of Interest, with Ahmedabad proposed as the host city. The final bid proposals must be submitted by August 31.
With Canada pulling out of the race, India’s chances of hosting the Games have improved.
A team from Commonwealth Sport, led by Director of Games Darren Hall, recently visited Ahmedabad to inspect venues and meet Gujarat government officials. A larger delegation is expected later this month for further evaluation.
The host nation will be confirmed by the General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport in the last week of November in Glasgow.
India last hosted the multi-sport event in 2010, in New Delhi.
