India is set to embark on the world’s largest democratic exercise as voting for the 18th Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies in four states kicks off tomorrow, marking the beginning of the General Elections 2024. The Election Commission of India has left no stone unturned in ensuring the smooth conduct of this monumental event, reaffirming its commitment to uphold the principles of free, fair, and peaceful elections.

Over the past two years, the Commission, along with its teams across States and Union Territories, has meticulously prepared for this momentous occasion. Extensive consultations, reviews, field visits, and comprehensive training of officials have been conducted to ensure a seamless voting experience for India’s 97 crore voters.

The first phase of polling, scheduled for April 19, 2024, will cover 102 Parliamentary Constituencies and 92 Assembly Constituencies across 21 States/UTs, including Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. With over 18 lakh polling officials deployed across 1.87 lakh polling stations, they are ready to welcome the 16.63 crore voters, comprising both male, female, and third-gender electors.

Notably, 35.67 lakh first-time voters and 3.51 crore young voters aged between 20-29 years are registered to cast their votes in this election. A total of 1625 candidates, including 1491 males and 134 females, will be contesting in the fray.

To facilitate the smooth conduct of polling and ensure security, the Election Commission has deployed 41 helicopters, 84 special trains, and nearly 1 lakh vehicles across the country.

The remaining six phases of polling will continue until June 1, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4. As India prepares to celebrate the spirit of democracy, all eyes are on the General Elections 2024, poised to shape the nation’s future.
