The much-anticipated Fit India Carnival 2026 begins today in Guwahati, bringing a vibrant celebration of health, wellness and culture to the Arya Vidyapith College Ground at Birubari. The three-day event, running from February 26 to 28, is being organised as part of the nationwide Fit India Movement.
Launched on August 29, 2019, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Fit India Movement aims to make fitness an integral part of daily life and foster a culture of physical activity across the country. Over the years, it has grown into one of India’s largest fitness initiatives, inspiring millions to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Following the overwhelming response to last year’s carnival in New Delhi, the festival is now expanding its footprint across the country. In Guwahati, the event is being organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Guwahati, with a special focus on blending fitness with the rich cultural vibrancy of the Northeast.
Envisioned as a flagship fitness and wellness festival, the carnival promotes not only physical fitness but also mental well-being, nutrition awareness and traditional sports. The event has been designed as a multi-generational celebration, welcoming participants from all age groups.
Over the next three days, attendees can take part in Zumba sessions, yoga workshops, structured exercise routines, interactive fitness challenges and traditional games conducted by certified trainers. The carnival promises to offer accessible and engaging activities to encourage community participation.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the programme will feature a Northeast cultural showcase representing all eight states, a live Bihu performance, band performances with Assamese, Hindi and English chartbusters, and energetic DJ sessions on all three days.
An official from SAI Guwahati stated that the Fit India Carnival 2026 is more than just a fitness event, emphasising that it seeks to inspire individuals and families to prioritise health and celebrate wellness together. The organisers have invited students, families and fitness enthusiasts from across Assam and the Northeast to join the collective celebration.
With fitness activities and cultural performances set to energise the city, Guwahati is all set to witness three days of enthusiasm, movement and community spirit starting today.
