The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed IndiGo to reduce its flight schedule by 5 per cent across sectors in light of the recent widespread flight disruptions and cancellations. These cancellations are applied especially on high-demand, high-frequency flights, and to avoid single-flight operations on a sector by IndiGo.
The DGCA said in its notice that over fifteen thousand departures per week were approved for the airline, as per the Winter Schedule this year. This would amount to sixty-four thousand expected flights in November, but IndiGo only operated fewer than sixty thousand flights during this period.
Furthermore, the airline was allowed a schedule enhancement by 6 per cent with 403 aircraft, up from 351 aircraft during the Summer Season. But it could only operate 339 aircraft in October and 344 aircraft in November.
The Directorate highlighted that despite increasing its departures, IndiGo has not demonstrated an ability to operate these schedules efficiently. The Aviation body has asked the airline to submit a revised schedule tomorrow by 5 PM.
