Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi To Visit India Today

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in New Delhi on Monday for a two-day visit, during which he is scheduled to hold a crucial bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar and engage in boundary talks with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.

The visit is seen as part of ongoing efforts to restore trust between India and China, which came under strain following the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020.

Both sides are expected to explore new confidence-building measures aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability along their contested border.

“During his (Wang’s) visit, he will hold the 24th round of the Special Representatives’ (SR) Talks on the India-China boundary question with India’s SR, NSA Shri Doval,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

According to the MEA, Wang will land in New Delhi at around 4:15 p.m. on Monday and meet Jaishankar at 6 p.m. for detailed bilateral discussions.

On Tuesday morning, he will hold a fresh round of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary question with NSA Doval at 11 a.m.

Wang and Doval are the designated SRs for the boundary negotiations, a mechanism revived last year after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia.

The talks are expected to cover a wide range of issues, including the border situation, trade, and the possible resumption of flight services between the two countries. Later on Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m., Wang will call on Prime Minister Modi at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.

Wang’s visit comes just ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s planned trip to China for the SCO summit later this month and against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to double tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent, including an additional 25 per cent penalty for India’s continued purchase of Russian oil.

This round of high-level exchanges builds on momentum from last year, when NSA Doval travelled to China in December for boundary talks with Wang.

In recent months, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and EAM Jaishankar have also visited China for SCO-related engagements, signaling renewed efforts on both sides to stabilize bilateral ties.
