Rahul Gandhi Challenges PM Modi to an Open Debate Amid War of Words with Amit Shah

7

Amid the ongoing political confrontation between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over allegations of vote theft and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Rahul Gandhi has challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an open public debate.

Amit Shah had invited Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to participate in a parliamentary debate on any issue, including alleged vote theft and the demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Shah had also accused Rahul of deliberately avoiding Parliament and attempting to create unrest through street protests.

Responding to Shah’s remarks on Friday, Rahul Gandhi took a dig at the Union Home Minister through a post on X.

” Amit Shah ji, please don’t mislead Modiji. Just convince him to have a public debate with me. On any platform, anytime! Don’t be afraid,” Rahul wrote.

Rahul also shared two video clips along with his post. In one of the clips, Amit Shah can be heard saying that there would be no debate on SIR in Parliament. In the other, Shah is seen urging Rahul Gandhi to come to Parliament and participate in the debate.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah once again targeted Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public rally in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Friday.

Shah expressed confidence that the BJP would return to power in Uttarakhand for a third consecutive term in next year’s Assembly elections.

Taking a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, Shah said that even if the Congress leader repeatedly visited Uttarakhand as a tourist, it would not bring about any political change in the state. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were working towards the overall development of Uttarakhand.

Shah further described Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Bachao Yatra’ as a ‘Save Infiltrators Yatra’ and claimed that the people of the country were not accepting the Congress leader’s ideology.

Amid the ongoing political exchanges over SIR and Gyanesh Kumar, discontent has also reportedly emerged within the Congress party.

The Congress high command recently suspended 185 youth leaders from seven states as a disciplinary measure for remaining absent from the INDIA bloc meeting held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. The decision has reportedly triggered resentment among grassroots workers within the party.

Against this backdrop, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the party’s Diwali Milan programme on Friday, urged Congress workers and cadres to work together and strengthen the party organisation.

Emphasising the importance of staying connected with ordinary people, Rahul said that party workers should celebrate Diwali with the public and stand by them at every moment.

Taking another indirect swipe at Amit Shah, Rahul remarked, “Celebrate Diwali with ordinary people and stand by them at every moment. Do not organise public meetings by shutting down markets and shops in Dehradun, like Amit Shah.”

West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Shubhankar Sarkar was also present at the Congress party’s Diwali Milan programme.
