Glenn Phillips Creates T20I History as New Zealand Beat India by 7 Wickets in 5th T20I; India Clinch Series 3-2
New Zealand defeated India by seven wickets in the fifth and final T20I at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday, chasing down a target of 192 runs in just 18 overs to end the five-match series 3-2.
Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips starred in the successful chase, scoring 93 and an unbeaten 65 respectively. Their 86-run partnership off just 42 balls for the third wicket put New Zealand firmly in control.
Phillips also created history by setting a new record for the most runs scored by a batter in a bilateral T20I series. He finished with 341 runs, surpassing England’s Phil Salt, who had scored 331 runs against the West Indies in 2023.
Earlier, India posted 191/8 after being asked to bat first. However, the Indian bowlers struggled to contain the hosts, with Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy and Nitish Kumar Reddy claiming one wicket each.
Despite losing the final two matches, India clinched the series 3-2 after winning the first three encounters.
