The science teacher from Tupamari wins gold, silver and bronze at the international swimming competition held in Bengaluru from October 4 to 10.

Assam’s Zehena Akhtar has brought laurels to the state by winning three medals at the 2nd Asian Masters Swimming Championships 2026, held in Bengaluru from October 4 to 10.

A science teacher by profession, Akhtar teaches at Kalakuchi Satgaon High School. She is also the daughter-in-law of Tupamari village in the Samaria constituency.

Akhtar delivered an impressive performance at the international competition, winning a gold medal in the 400-metre medley, a silver medal in the 200-metre freestyle and a bronze medal in the 200-metre breaststroke.

Notably, she was the only woman swimmer from Assam to win a gold medal at the championship, according to the information provided.

Akhtar has previously won several medals at state and national-level swimming competitions, establishing herself as a talented swimmer.

Her latest achievement has sparked celebrations among residents of Tupamari in the Samaria constituency. Locals have expressed pride in her success, which has brought recognition to the region and the state.

Residents have also urged the government to take special note of Akhtar’s achievements and provide her with the necessary support and encouragement to help her progress further in the field of swimming.
