Indian Seafarer Killed After Torpedoes Strike Ship Off Oman Coast

An Indian national was killed after the cargo vessel MV Cape Dao came under attack while sailing towards India via the Oman route, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday.

The vessel was reportedly travelling from Mina Saqr to India when two torpedoes struck its port side, damaging the accommodation area and part of the engine room.

According to the MEA, 19 of the 20 Indian seafarers on board were rescued, while one Indian national lost his life. The ministry expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

India’s Embassy in Oman said it was closely monitoring the incident and coordinating with Omani authorities to ensure the safety of the crew.

The Federation of Seafarers’ Unions of India (FSUI) also confirmed the death, identifying the deceased as Yadav. However, it said the vessel had 28 crew members, including 20 Indians.

A report by the Directorate of Maritime Administration also recorded 28 crew members on board, comprising 20 Indian seafarers employed by three different shipping companies.
