Meghalaya Nursing Deputy Director Ms. Ivory Kharduit & AIIMS Principal Dr. Unmona Bargohain Grace First Batch Orientation of Nursing Students at USTM
The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), through its esteemed Regional Institute of Nursing Education (RINE), has commenced a comprehensive four-day induction program for its first batch of nursing students, beginning August 19, 2025.
The inaugural day of the orientation was marked by the gracious presence of Dr. Unmona Bargohain, Principal of AIIMS, and Ms. Ivory Kharduit, Deputy Director of Nursing, Government of Meghalaya, who attended as Chief Guests. The event witnessed added significance with the presence of Padma Shri Dr. Sarbeswar Sahariya, Pro Vice-Chancellor, USTM, whose address inspired students to uphold the highest standards of service and humanity in nursing.

Also present was Dr. Abhinandan Das, Principal of PIMC, who shared key insights into interdisciplinary collaboration in healthcare and encouraged students to embrace innovation and lifelong learning
Their insightful addresses set an inspiring tone for the budding nursing professionals, highlighting the values of dedication, compassion, and professionalism in healthcare.
Also addressing the students were distinguished medical educators and scholars, including Dr. Kalpana Hazarika, Principal of RINE; Dr. Pooja Chaudhuri; Dr. Mitali Goswami; Dr. Geeta Das, Principal; and Dr. Shyam Sundar Sarma, Assistant Professor, among others.
Their collective expertise and passion created an intellectually vibrant atmosphere, enriching the students’ introduction to the nursing profession.
The induction day featured a series of engaging sessions—ranging from expert talks and interactive discussions to practical experiences in hospital environments, skill laboratories, and first aid training. A notable highlight was the visit to the university’s Herbal Garden, where students learned about the relevance and application of alternative therapies in modern nursing.
Dr. Baby Dutta led a session on career opportunities in nursing, underlining the importance of professional ethics, continuous learning, and a commitment to patient care.
The day’s activities concluded with a vibrant cultural program, encouraging teamwork, creativity, and camaraderie among students—a perfect close to a day filled with learning and connection.
With three more days of interactive learning, field exposure, and skill-building ahead, the orientation program at USTM promises to equip nursing students with a strong foundation as they begin their professional journey.
