3 terrorists were neutralized in an ongoing encounter with security forces in the Nader area of Tral, Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army confirmed on Thursday.
According to a statement by the Army’s Chinar Corps on X, “Three hardcore terrorists have been eliminated in the ongoing operation at Nader, Awantipora. The identity of the terrorists is being ascertained.”
The encounter followed a joint anti-terror operation launched earlier in the day by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), based on specific intelligence inputs.
Security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in the area after receiving actionable intelligence. As they closed in, the terrorists opened heavy fire, triggering a fierce gunfight. The operation is still underway, according to official updates.
This encounter comes just two days after a similar operation in Shopian, where three terrorists — including a local commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and its proxy outfit The Resistance Front (LeT/TRF) — were killed. That operation resulted in the recovery of AK-series rifles, grenades, and a significant stock of ammunition.
Security forces continue their counterterrorism efforts across the region, maintaining high vigilance amid ongoing threats.
