Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was evacuated on Saturday following reports of a loud blast, according to international media reports. Reuters reported that more than a dozen ambulances were seen rushing to the airport. Saudi authorities have yet to comment on the incident. The reported incident comes amid escalating attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Saudi targets. Authorities recently reported the deaths of three Saudi nationals, including a pilot, in two attacks, while three others were killed in attacks on two Saudi airports on October 6 and 7. The renewed violence threatens to further destabilise Yemen, where fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces has intensified following the breakdown of an informal truce established in 2022.
