A protest demanding justice in the death case of Zubeen Garg was held at Chachal in Guwahati on Friday. Organised by the All Assam Zubeen Garg Fan Club, the peaceful demonstration witnessed the participation of people calling for a transparent investigation, strict punishment for those found guilty and justice for the late singer.

The protest was held from 10 AM to 2 PM, during which demonstrators raised slogans expressing dissatisfaction with the stand taken by political leaders over the case.

While expressing full confidence in the judiciary, the protesters urged the authorities to ensure a fair and timely conclusion to the investigation and trial.

Zubeen Garg died on September 19, 2025, while swimming in the sea during a visit to Singapore. Following his death, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police initiated an investigation into alleged criminal conspiracy surrounding the incident. The trial is currently underway at a fast-track court in Guwahati, where the testimonies of more than 134 witnesses have reportedly been recorded.

Meanwhile, two accused in the case have recently secured bail. Amritprabha Mahanta was granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on October 9, while suspended police officer Sandipan Garg, was granted bail on October 16. The Assam Police SIT is preparing to approach the Supreme Court challenging the bail orders.

Earlier, on October 28, a delegation comprising family members and members of the music fraternity, led by Zubeen Garg’s wife Garima Saikia Garg, met Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and submitted a seven-point memorandum.

The memorandum raised several demands, including expediting the trial, taking legal steps against the bail orders, ensuring witness protection, appointing experienced legal counsel, monitoring the financial and criminal aspects of the case, and maintaining regular communication with the family.

Through Friday’s demonstration at Chachal in Guwahati, protesters reiterated their demand for justice, stating that their campaign would continue until accountability is ensured in the death case of Zubeen Garg.
