Police Detain Rupam Saikia in Nimisha Thakuria Murder Case
Police have detained Rupam Saikia in connection with the death of Nimisha Thakuria, while the investigation into the case continues.
According to information emerging during the investigation, Nimisha and her boyfriend Ashiq Ali entered Rudra’s Kitchen Homestay in Garal at around 7:19 pm on Friday. They were reportedly carrying bottles of alcohol.
Ashiq allegedly left the homestay around 9 pm and later returned after purchasing alcohol from a nearby shop. Rupam Saikia, a resident of Sadilapur and Bejpara, also reportedly arrived at the homestay during this period.
Police are examining the movements of Ashiq and Rupam. They reportedly went out together to purchase alcohol from a liquor shop at Nirvana in Azara before returning to the homestay.
According to Rupam’s family, he had left home at around 7 pm that evening and returned around 10 pm in an intoxicated condition. They also said that a relative had died that day, following which Rupam went to Mirza. The family reportedly stated that he learned about Nimisha’s death only after returning home the following day.
Police have also arrested Mintu Ali, an employee of the homestay where Nimisha’s body was recovered. He had earlier been detained for questioning.
DCP Bolin Deuri said the investigation is progressing and that police have identified people connected with the incident. He said all those found to be involved will be brought under the scope of the investigation. The police will also examine any information related to drugs that emerges during the investigation.
The homestay has been sealed for allegedly not following prescribed rules. The investigation is ongoing, with police examining the circumstances surrounding Nimisha’s death and the sequence of events at the homestay.
