India’s Gold Rush Continues: 9 Gold Medals at Asian Games 2026
India enjoyed a remarkable Day 12 at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, with the country adding three gold medals on Wednesday to take its gold-medal tally to nine. The Indian contingent also secured a bronze in boxing and assured another medal in women’s squash.
The day began with a golden double in compound archery. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Taniparthi Chikitha defeated China 238-234 in the women’s team final to retain India’s Asian Games title. The Indian trio had earlier beaten South Korea in the semifinal.
India then added another archery gold in the mixed team compound event. Taniparthi Chikitha and Sahil Rajesh Jadhav held their nerve against South Korea in a dramatic shoot-off after the final ended level. The victory also secured India’s first quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in compound archery, where the discipline will make its Olympic debut.
The gold rush continued in shooting, with Kynan Chenai and Neeru Dhanda winning the trap mixed team gold. Dhanda, who had already claimed individual trap gold on Tuesday, added another title to her impressive Asian Games campaign. The mixed-team victory took India’s gold-medal tally to nine.
For Neeru, it has been a particularly memorable Games. She became the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games gold in trap shooting on Tuesday, before teaming up with Chenai for another gold a day later.
India also added a medal in boxing, with Priya Ghanghas settling for bronze in the women’s 60kg category. The Indian boxer lost her semifinal to China’s Yang Chengyu by a 1-4 decision, but her run to the last four guaranteed her a podium finish.
Meanwhile, India’s women’s squash team advanced to the semifinals, assuring the country another medal. The team featuring Tanvi Khanna, Anahat Singh and Joshana Chinappa progressed after defeating Singapore.
The Indian contingent’s strong showing on Day 12 comes after another productive day in athletics on Tuesday. With archery and shooting producing multiple gold medals, India’s medal campaign has gathered further momentum in the final phase of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
