Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit China on August 31 for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, marking his first visit since 2019, reported NDTV. There is a possibility that Modi will hold an informal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the conference. This will be the prime minister’s first visit to China after the clashes between the two countries in Galwan. Modi will be attending the SCO Summit in Tianjin between August 31 and September 1.
Issues such as regional security, terrorism and trade will be discussed with SCO member states. India is seeking to restore stability and dialogue in India-China relations.
Modi will likely hold a meeting with Putin and Xi Jinping during the conference. Earlier, Modi and Xi Jinping met at the Brics summit in Kazan in October 2024. It was after this meeting that work towards easing border tensions between the two countries picked up pace. Before his visit to China, Modi will be visiting Japan for a bilateral meet on August 30.
