Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday departed for India after concluding his two-day official visit to Malaysia, during which several initiatives were undertaken to strengthen bilateral ties across strategic, economic and people-centric domains.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit produced significant outcomes that would add momentum to India–Malaysia relations. He said the visit was marked by warmth and hospitality and was anchored in the close cultural bonds shared by the two countries.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi interacted with business leaders from India and Malaysia and noted that the CEO Forum held on the margins of the visit opened new opportunities for trade and investment between the two nations.
The Prime Minister also met leaders of Indian origin in Malaysia, including Ministers and Senators, and praised their contributions to public life. He said their deep emotional connection with India and their achievements were a matter of pride.
Prime Minister Modi met veteran of the Azad Hind Fauj, also known as the Indian National Army, Jeyaraj Raja Rao in Kuala Lumpur and paid tribute to the legacy of the INA and its founder Subhas Chandra Bose. He said the courage and sacrifice of the INA’s men and women played a defining role in shaping India’s destiny.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi held talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Seri Perdana, the official residence of the Malaysian leader. The two Prime Ministers reviewed cooperation across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, information technology and biotechnology, and agreed to further strengthen collaboration in security, defence technologies, artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
The Prime Minister said India and Malaysia, as maritime neighbours, share a close and enduring friendship. He highlighted that people-to-people ties remain at the core of bilateral relations and said initiatives such as the Social Security Agreement, a gratis e-visa for tourism and the introduction of UPI in Malaysia would bring the people of the two countries closer. He also underlined efforts to expand university exchanges and skill development opportunities for youth.
Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi addressed members of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, acknowledging their role in strengthening ties between the two countries.
