Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged citizens to celebrate India’s cultural heritage while embracing sustainability and social responsibility, in the 127th episode of his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’.

Addressing the nation amid the festive season, the Prime Minister extended greetings for Diwali and Chhath Puja, calling the festival “a reflection of the deep unity between culture, nature, and society.” He praised the devotion of women observing Chhath Vrat and said the celebration exemplifies “the most beautiful form of India’s social unity.”

Inclusive Progress and Grassroots Initiatives

Referring to recent national developments, PM Modi said operations like ‘Operation Sindoor’ had filled Indians with pride and that the “lamps of joy” now glowed even in areas once affected by Maoist violence. He highlighted the growing preference for indigenous products during the festive season and the positive public response to his appeal for reduced edible oil consumption.

The Prime Minister lauded innovative civic initiatives promoting cleanliness and sustainability. He cited Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh, where “Garbage Cafes” offer meals in exchange for plastic waste, and Bengaluru engineer Kapil Sharma’s work rejuvenating 40 wells and six lakes through community and corporate participation.

In Gujarat, Modi praised large-scale mangrove plantation drives along the Dholera and Kutch coasts, which, he said, have revived marine life and supported local livelihoods. “We must promote the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and plant trees wherever we live,” he added.

AI and Indigenous Breeds in National Service

PM Modi revisited his earlier appeal to adopt Indian dog breeds, noting that security forces like the BSF and CRPF are now training Rampur Hounds, Mudhol Hounds, Kombai, and Pandikona breeds. “Our indigenous dogs have displayed amazing courage,” he said, commending their role in detecting explosives and ensuring national security.

The Prime Minister also invited citizens to watch the Ekta Diwas parade on October 31 at the Statue of Unity, commemorating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary. “This Run for Unity will strengthen our national integration,” he said.

Coffee, Culture, and Community

In a lighter segment, PM Modi spoke about India’s growing coffee culture, spotlighting Koraput Coffee from Odisha and its role in empowering local farmers and women. “Indian coffee is brewed in India and loved by the world,” he remarked, mentioning popular coffee regions across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

Marking 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’

The Prime Minister announced that November 7 would mark 150 years since the composition of ‘Vande Mataram’ by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Calling it a timeless song that “evokes a surge of emotions and unity,” he invited suggestions under the hashtag #VandeMataram150 to commemorate the milestone.

Sanskrit Revival and Youth Engagement

PM Modi highlighted a growing interest among young Indians in Sanskrit through social media. “Times are changing, and so are the times for Sanskrit,” he said, mentioning young creators like Yash Salunke and sisters Kamala and Janhavi, who use digital platforms to make Sanskrit accessible and engaging.

Remembering Tribal Heroes

Paying tribute to tribal freedom fighters, the Prime Minister recalled Komaram Bheem’s courage against the Nizam’s oppression and said his legacy continues to inspire. He also honoured Bhagwan Birsa Munda, whose birth anniversary on November 15 will be observed as Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas.

“Just like Birsa Munda and Komaram Bheem, many great luminaries from our tribal communities shaped India’s freedom and identity,” he said, urging citizens to learn about their contributions.

Call to Action

Concluding his address, PM Modi invited citizens to share stories of innovation and service from their localities for upcoming editions of Mann Ki Baat. “Those working selflessly for social change embody the true spirit of New India,” he said.

The Prime Minister signed off with a message of gratitude and hope: “We will meet again next month with new inspirations. Until then, Namaste.”
