Chief Minister reviews law and order situation in Dhubri town

Chief Minister affirms ongoing vigilance to preserve public order in the town

To assess the prevailing law and order situation in Dhubri town, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma held an important meeting today with senior officials at the Dhubri Circuit House. The meeting involved a comprehensive review of developments in the town, with particular focus on the maintenance of peace and public order. Notably, prohibited meat was recovered from the premises of the Hanuman Mandir in Ward No. 3, an incident which led to considerable tension and disturbance in the locality. In light of this, the Chief Minister undertook a visit to Dhubri on 13 June to take stock of the circumstances and review the law enforcement response.

Following the review meeting, Dr. Sarma addressed the members of the press assembled at the Circuit House and stated that this marked the second occasion on which the law and order situation in Dhubri town had been examined since the recent disturbances. He said that today’s meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, the Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), the District Commissioner of Dhubri, and the Senior Superintendent of Police. Together, they undertook a thorough assessment of the recent developments in the area. He noted that normalcy had been restored in the town and that efforts were ongoing to preserve the present conditions of peace and stability. He further added that land-related concerns affecting the town were taken up during the course of the meeting, and conveyed his belief that these issues would be gradually resolved.

In reference to the incident involving the recovery of prohibited meat from the premises of the Hanuman Mandir, the Chief Minister stated that those responsible had been identified. He said that the principal accused was currently absconding but expressed hope that the individual would surrender in due course. He further shared that 150 persons had been arrested thus far in connection with the incident, including 11 individuals detained in relation to cases registered across various parts of the state. Additionally, non-bailable warrants had been issued against several others. In a related development, Dr. Sarma mentioned that plans are in progress to establish a permanent army camp in the vicinity of Dhubri town and that discussions with the Central Government on this matter are underway.

The review meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Akhilesh Kumar Singh, District Commissioner Dibakar Nath, and Senior Superintendent of Police Leena Doley.
