One-Day State-Level Workshop on NDLI & NDLI Club Held at Assam down town University

A one-day State-level workshop on the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) and the NDLI Club was successfully organised on July 21 at Assam down town University. The event was jointly hosted by the Hari Narayan Dutta Baruah Central Library of the university and the NDLI team from IIT Kharagpur.
The workshop began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chancellor of Assam down town University, Dr. N. N. Dutta, marking an auspicious start to the event. Vice Chancellor Dr. N. C. Talukdar delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for a day of insightful discussions on digital knowledge resources.

The Chief Guest for the occasion, Dr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Chancellor of Nagaland University, spoke on the theme of knowledge preservation. Drawing inspiration from traditional institutions like the satras, he emphasised the importance of indigenous knowledge systems in the digital era.

Dr. B. Sutradhar, Joint Principal Investigator of NDLI, provided an in-depth presentation on the functions and outreach of NDLI and the NDLI Club, elaborating on how digital platforms are revolutionizing access to academic resources. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Pranveer Singh highlighted the significance of knowledge sharing in a digitally connected world, while Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh reflected on the broader digital transformation shaping contemporary education.

The second session focused on technical discussions and was attended by over 250 teachers, librarians, and students from across Northeast India. The session featured lectures by Dr. Prasanta Kumar Deka and Mr. Sobhan Nath, along with an interactive and intellectually stimulating quiz conducted by Dr. B. Sutradhar.

Prominent attendees included Prof. Bandana Dutta, Architect Biswa Dutta, Registrar Dr. Ashim Barman, and Dr. Ruhit Jyoti konwar, professor of practice Mr. Utpal Datta among others, who contributed to the event’s academic vibrancy.

Speaking to the press, Dr. Rubi Goswami, the lead convenor of the workshop, announced that similar workshops are being planned on a national scale in the near future. The day’s sessions—including the inauguration, technical discussions, and the valedictory ceremony—were seamlessly anchored by Dr. Santosh Kumar Upadhyay and Dr. Dimpi Das Pathak, adding grace and coherence to the proceedings.
The workshop marked a significant step in promoting awareness and active engagement with digital academic resources in the region.
