Naturenomics Research Conclave Opens Uniting Scholars for The Eastern Himalayan Ecosystem Resilience

The Naturenomics Research Conclave 2025 organised by Balipara Foundation and Gauhati University officially commenced today, bringing together leading academics, scientists, research scholars, and community representatives for a two-day knowledge exchange on strengthening ecosystem resilience and regenerative development across the Eastern Himalaya and Northeast Hills.

The inaugural session was graced by eminent dignitaries, including Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, who delivered the inaugural address; Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor, Cotton University, as the Guest of Honour; Dr. Dibakar Goswami, Head Hydrogeologist, Nuclear Waste Programme, Washington State Department of Ecology, USA; and Prof. K. Tayung, Dean, Faculty of Science, Gauhati University. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. B.N. Goswami, Professor of Excellence, Gauhati University.

Designed as a collaborative platform, the Conclave brings together over 300 students, research scholars, and community leaders from across the region, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and co-creation of solutions for the ecological and socio-economic challenges facing the Eastern Himalaya.

Over the next two days, participants will engage in a rich programme featuring:
• Research presentations by scholars across environmental and social science disciplines
• Idea-pitching sessions to spark innovative solutions
• Workshops and interactive dialogues linking scientific research with traditional ecological knowledge
• Outdoor learning sessions led by experts and grassroots practitioners

Key thematic clusters for the Conclave include Forests and Environment, Connecting Tradition with Science, and broader frameworks of community-led ecological restoration and regenerative development.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University, remarked, “This research conclave is a paradigmatic change we should look at in the process of development.”

The Naturenomics Research Conclave 2025 continues its commitment to building a collaborative, transdisciplinary research ecosystem that empowers youth, honours community wisdom, and advances a resilient future for the Eastern Himalaya.
