In a major anti-smuggling operation, Railway Police recovered a significant quantity of gold from Kamakhya Railway Station in Guwahati.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by Jadav Chetia, In-charge of Kamakhya GRP, arrested an inter-state gold smuggler identified as Ashok Prasad from Patna, Bihar.
The accused was caught red-handed at Platform No. 1 while carrying 11 gold biscuits. The market value of the seized gold is estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ashok Prasad had brought the gold from Bihar to Guwahati for sale. He is currently in the custody of Railway Police.
This successful operation highlights the continued vigilance of Railway Police against gold smuggling through major railway stations in the region. Further investigation is underway.
