Kidnapping Bid Foiled in Guwahati, Police Rescue Victim and Arrest Eight

A prompt police response foiled a kidnapping attempt in the city on Sunday night, leading to the rescue of a victim and the arrest of eight individuals involved in the crime. The incident was reported at around 9.30 PM, when one Ershad Khan of Kismatpur, Goalpara, informed Dispur Police Station that his friend, Rahul Mishra, had been forcibly taken away by a group of 10 to 15 unidentified persons from in front of Pratikshya Hospital in Borbari.

The kidnappers allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs. 15–20 lakh for Mishra’s release. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team from Dispur PS traced the victim to Tribeni Path, where he was being held inside two vehicles bearing registration numbers AS01EM0718 and AS23Q3566.

Police succeeded in rescuing Mishra and apprehended six kidnappers from the spot. Further investigation led to the arrest of two more individuals linked to the abduction.

A search of the vehicles resulted in the recovery of several incriminating items including two baseball bats, a hockey stick, a double-edged knife, two pepper spray cans, six mobile phones, an artificial object, five financial aid solicitation letters allegedly signed by “Bikash Asom” of Veer Lachit Sena, Assam, one receipt book used for money collection in the same name, two identity cards belonging to Biraj Ballav Kalita of the organization, and one logo associated with Veer Lachit Sena.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

• Biraj Ballav Kalita

All accused, along with the rescued victim and seized items, have been taken to the police station for further legal procedures. Police have initiated necessary action under relevant sections of the law, and the investigation is underway to trace other accomplices involved in the case.
